There is beauty in incorporating nature’s companions into any spiritual practice you have – it helps you tune into the earth’s cycles and gives you a reason to stop living on autopilot and ask, “What do I really need to walk a meaningful, fulfilling path?”

“Snowy month” is the name of the February full moon, because traditionally at this time of the year heavy snow falls (at least in Northern Hemisphere). The name has its roots in the tradition of the indigenous population of North America and was also called Eagle moon, bear moon, hungry moon, among many other names.
The end of winter is approaching, there is a feeling awakening and renewal which occur below the surface of the snow. This is the time when the first bursts of life can break through the ice in the form of snowdrops, crocuses and other hardy flowers.
On a spiritual and symbolic level, it is an invitation to explore what invisible transformations are taking place within us. How do we want to grow, change and develop? What new chapter are we entering in our lives?
If you live in Southern Hemisphere like me, summer is coming to an end and autumn is on the horizon. A Snow Moon can be a refreshing opportunity to ask yourself, “What do I need to melt, dissolve, and dissolve within myself to find more clarity, direction, and peace?”

Depending on where you live in the world and what’s going on in your life, a snow moon can evoke feelings hope, new energy and ambition you have I liken it to a quiet plant that makes its way up through the snow and just waits for the moment to fully bloom.
There is a feeling quiet re-awakening and resurrection here.
Alternatively, the Snow Moon can evoke a sense of quiet contemplation, a desire to “melt away” old ways of being and make room for something radically new to take root in your life.

Unlike other full moons, the Snow Moon is much more subtle and soft, but don’t underestimate its power!
Here are some effective ways to work with the energy of this year’s Snow Moon:

Rituals they are external symbolic actions that convey to our unconscious the desire for specific internal changes. In this ritual, step out into the snow (best for northerners) or pick up an ice cube (best for southerners) and think about what you want to release from your life.
For example, maybe you want to release uncertainty. Draw this word on the snow with a stick and let it melt. If you choose to use a block of ice, hold it in your hands, then visualize it filling with the energy of uncertainty and place it on the ground to melt.
Record this experience in your journal and note any changes, big or small, that occur after performing this simple ritual.


In this simple meditation, find a white candle, light it (and put it in a safe place) and use it as a center for your meditation. Practitioners of yoga call it Trataka, which in Sanskrit means “to look, to look.”
The goal here is to gently focus on the flame of the candle while thinking about the quality you want to strengthen within yourself. It symbolizes the “returning light” of spring.
If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, you may want to instead reflect on a quality you wish to purify or release within yourself.
Do this practice for 10-20 minutes and notice how you feel afterwards. Calmer, clearer, calmer? Write it down and track what changes in your life as a result.
